How many times a week do you say, “Oh well, it is what it is …?” How many times a week do you hear someone else say it? It’s recently become a popular expression, and it’s one of my biggest pet peeves!
“It is what it is …” is a blanket statement that keeps us from moving forward and processing the real feelings underneath the statement. When people say it they’re usually feeling bitter and full of resentment or they’re feeling helpless and resigned. Be aware of what you’re feeling when you say that phrase, and check in to see if you’re REALLY willing move through the feeling toward acceptance, taking new action, making new choices and moving beyond the challenge!
